Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss
The Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology is by Federal mandate the national provider for weather and climate services in Switzerland. In this role, it serves the community and industry, monitoring the entire atmosphere over Switzerland, issuing weather forecasts, warning the authorities and the general public of dangerous weather conditions and analysing climate data.
The three regional centres in Zurich, Geneva and Locarno, the centre for meteorological measurement technology in Payerne and the aviation weather services at Zurich and Geneva airports provide first-hand weather and climate information and remain in close contact with their respective customers.
The surface observation system, weather radars, satellites, radio soundings and other remote sensing instruments monitor the weather in three dimensions. High-resolution computer models calculate meteorological developments in the alpine region. National and international research projects contribute to a better understanding of weather and climate in the alpine area. MeteoSwiss is also the official representative of Switzerland in the World Meteorological Organization WMO in Geneva and in other international organisations.
